Q&A WITH MANAGING DIRECTOR, NICK MEAD
What's your role at Eden, and what does it involve?
I’m the Managing Director, which, if you ask any MD, usually means doing the jobs no one else wants! Jokes aside, my role is to oversee the company as a whole, with a particular focus on strategic growth, especially in technology and sustainability. I’m fortunate to have a fantastic team supporting me across the business - though it does mean I spend a lot of time in meetings!
What’s the most memorable event you’ve organised for an Eden client?
After nearly 30 years, I’ve had the privilege of working with incredible people on a huge variety of events - from intimate gatherings to large-scale festivals for thousands, and from corporate clients to royalty. One standout moment was in 2018 when we catered a summer festival for a well-known serviced office company. Over five days, we fed thousands of their global team in a field in Kent, running a 24-hour catering operation. It was a logistical challenge - but a fun one!
Along the way, I’ve met some amazing people, including my sporting heroes and even His Majesty The King on more than one occasion - chatting with him about sustainability, which was a real honour.
What do you enjoy most about working at Eden?
The people - both our clients and the amazing team members who’ve worked with us over the years. The variety of clients and events keeps things fresh, and no two days are ever the same. Even after all this time, it’s still exciting!
Finally, do you have a favourite menu item, past or present?
That’s an easy one - especially since I have a sweet tooth! Our Queen of Sheba chocolate cake is legendary. It’s a flourless, rich, gooey delight, made from a closely guarded recipe that was passed down through generations of our founders’ family. We used to sell it as a whole cake and on our fork buffets, but now it’s only available as a canapé. It’s utterly indulgent - and definitely not diet-friendly!
